Capri can be accessed by air or by sea. The closest airport is Naples International Airport, located approximately 10 km from the city’s port. There is also a heliport in Anacapri and other airports include Ravello (20 minutes) and Rome (70 minutes). In addition, the island can be reached by ferry or hydrofoil in 25 minutes from Sorrento or Positano, in 50 minutes from Naples, and in one hour from Amalfi.

Ferries & Hydrofoils

In Naples, there are two piers from which ferries to Capri depart: Molo Beverello and Calata di Massa.

Click the button below for the most updated ferry and hydrofoil departure information (Make sure to check the schedule the day before as it changes often, and the fast ferries (hydrofoils) can be canceled when the waves are particularly choppy.

From Rome Fiumicino Airport, you have to take the Leonardo Express to the main Roma Termini train station, then transfer to a different train to Naples. Once in Naples, you have to take a taxi or the metro to the port, and from there the ferry to Capri. It can be a long and complicated process that's also dependent on smooth connections at every point. approximately 4 hrs of travel via public transport from Rome.

An alternative option is a private transfer service from Rome. Including a sedan or minivan with driver and luggage transport to the port in Naples, ferry or speedboat crossing, taxi and luggage transport to your hotel on, consider a cost of around €600 for up to 5 passengers, and an approximate total trip time of 3-4 hours.

Note: If you are not hiring a private transfer service from Rome or Naples, we highly recommend coordinating a pick-up from the marina with your hotel or at least calling ahead for a taxi transfer. While most travel sites will suggest you take the funicular from Marina Grande to Capri Town, the lines can average from 20 to 45 minutes in summer. Taxis can be a smoother alternative, and you can always share them with other people or groups. Below are a couple of taxi drivers we know and love if you want to pre-book!

Private Boat Transfers

Transfer services to Capri usually include a private car with driver from the airport to the port, a sea crossing by private speedboat to Capri and a taxi from the port to the hotel

Please contact your hotel concierge to find out the various options they provide. If you are not staying at a hotel, but wish to have assistance with pre-purchase of your ferry/hydrofoil ticket in advance, as well as want assistance with your luggage all the way to where you are staying, please contact Privilege Italia below and they will provide you with pricing based on your party size, travel date and time.

Taxis

Island taxis are open-top, 6-seaters, so they are a fun way to experience the island. Fares are calculated with a meter, but there are fixed fares for the most common routes. For a taxi ride around the island, you can negotiate an all-inclusive fare based on the itinerary, season, and duration of the ride.

Public Buses

Buses on Capri are mini-buses with seating for about 10 passengers, and small enough to navigate the narrow lanes on the island. Public buses are always very crowded in the summer, and there is often a long line to board, but buses run frequently.

Usually buses depart every 15-20 minutes, though they run more frequently in high season. (Tickets: €2,20)

The bus terminal in Capri is in Piazza Martiri d’Ungheria (along Via Roma, near the Piazzetta). The Anacapri bus terminals are located in Piazza della Pace (also known as “Piazzale Cimitero”) and near Piazza Caprile (bus to Capri, Marina Grande, end Marina Piccola).
