Our Little Black Book to Capri
Serving up stylish sandals, woven goods, handmade ceramics and more, Capri has long-been favored for its island resortwear and whimsical style. While Via Camerelle, Via V. Emanuele and Via Le Botteghe are some of the world’s most glamorous shopping streets, you'll find a whole host of locally made goods scattered across the alleyways surrounding the Piazzetta, as well as Anacapri just a 15 minute bus or taxi ride away. You're truly spoilt for choice when it comes to shopping in Capri, but these are a few of our long-standing favorites!

Everything in Federico Alvarez de Toledo shop is inspired by his grandmother Laetitia Cerio, an artist and illustrator who worked on the island in the 1950s. They have needlepoint pillow cases, eyeglass covers with colored velvet backs, plastic printed trays, and linen mini-totes embroidered with animals which are great for sunscreen and beach supplies... not to mention the bounty of hand-woven pieces from Mercedes Salazar whose iconic basketry with island motifs continues to wow every passerby.

The perfume company traces its roots back to 12th-century Carthusian monks, who distilled the island's most beautiful blooms into scents. Today the pretty, flower-filled shop sells fragrances for body and home. Legend has it that Jackie O was a fan of Fiori di Capri, a feminine mix of lily of the valley and wild carnations. There are four showrooms on Capri, but the one on Viale Matteotti also houses the factory, where you can watch serious men in white lab coats at work.

Handmade sandals are a classic Capri souvenir, and this shop has been making theirs the same way since 1963, when Jackie Onassis and Grace Kelly were loyal customers. Whether you opt for simple straps or jewels, tassels or gold charms, they'll be made to measure on your own feet. If your stay ends before they're ready, the shop can ship your sandals anywhere in the world.

Four sisters from Capri are behind this wonderful knitwear brand. Their focus is on quality materials (merino wool, linen and cashmere) and classic but creative styles. They are known for their shawls, dresses and vibrant colors. Their “artisanal fashion” is sold in this spot near the Tiberio Palace and at an outpost at the Hotel de Russie in Rome. Don’t miss their second brand, Oro Capri, which is just down the street.

Ready-to-wear and made-to-measure dresses, shirts, pants, and skirts are just some of the beautiful things you will find in this pretty store. Around the corner from the flashier names on the Via Camerelle and a short stroll down the hill, the family-owned Laboratorio Capri is where Michele and his mother design and sew for movie stars as well as Capri locals. Shop the sandals and bags, whisper-weight scarves printed with images of old Capri, and colorful jewelry that will remind you of the island.

While there are many talented ceramicists on the island, Eureka is undoubtedly the best. This family-owned shop specializes in handmade ceramics which depict scenes, animals, and objet d’art local to the island. On their shelves you will find expertly painted and glazed casserole dishes, bowls, decorative objects, tiles, wall hangings and more. They ship worldwide, but have plenty of pocket-sized pieces too!

A favorite beachwear shop! They have these great retro one-piece striped suits that you can wear as body suits too. Indian motifs + embroidery techniques meet Caprese colors in the most delightful way.

A tiny shop in the heart of the Piazzetta, Cathaleia is run by the Rodriguez-d'Acri sisters. They carry unique Italian-bohemian inspired beach bags (look for their colorful Sicilian straw "coffa" bags), jewelry and accessories. Many items are limited edition or custom-made for Capri.

This light and airy shop near Aurora sells some of the prettiest objects on Capri. The owner sources pieces from top craftsmen throughout Europe, and her finds include beautiful leather boxes in the shape of scallop shells, finely wrought straw baskets, hand-painted tableware with aquatic designs and cover-ups from Marrakech.

Beautiful made-to-measure jewelled sandals that have been made by the same family, in the same location, since 1946. In the shop, your feet will be measured, and then you can select the style you want or mix-and-match colors to any combination. All told, it takes only about 20 minutes to create your custom sandals, with three choices of heels.

As the name suggests, it doesn’t get more Capri than this. The boutique offers chic linen pieces, from casual dresses to full suits, that you’ll wear again and again.
The smell of freshly made waffle cones lures you in to this historic gelateria from the sidewalk, and the rotating selection of seasonal gelato flavors never disappoints. When they have it, the panfragola (strawberries and cream) is a must! While the lines are always long, it’s more than worth the wait for the smoothest, richest flavors. Best of all, it’s open until 11:30pm in case you get an after-dinner craving

In Anacapri's countryside and accessible only by foot or the restaurant-owned shuttle, this well-kept secret is perfectly positioned overlooking their private vineyard and sea in the background. Almost everything is homemade or homegrown from their garden, and the 100% organic wine is cultivated on their own property - one of the few in Capri. The must-try options are their pollo al mattone, roasted chicken with lemon and rosemary cooked under a heated brick, and their homemade pasta with sausage. Call in advance to have their shuttle pick you up and drive you through the tiny narrow roads to reach the top.

Sit under the pergola at lunchtime, and take in the blues and greens of Marina Piccola down below. After dark, the space twinkles with soft lights and candles. Island classics such as insalata caprese and spaghetti alla Nerano, made with zucchini and provolone, are featured on the menu. Finish on a cool refreshing note with paper-thin slices of pineapple carpaccio marinated in ginger.

With its romantic setting, an overgrown lemon grove, Da Paolino has been an island favorite for more than thirty years. The food is unpretentious and best served family style - think classic Caprese fare of homemade pastas and fresh seafood. The cuisine is classic Caprese and includes a variety of homemade pastas and fresh seafood. The burrata, seafood scialatielli and chicken al mattone, roasted with lemon leaves under a brick, are exceptional. Definitely leave room for dessert as well... lemon profiteroles, certo.

Anacapri's answer to the famous Da Paolino lemon grove restaurant concept, La Zagara captures the essence of Mediterranean cuisine with both meat and seafood dishes, including linguine with yellow cherry tomatoes and the traditional "colatura di alici" anchovy sauce from nearby Cetara and tortellone alla "Mariantonia", tossed with clams, zucchini, and lemon, all followed by excellent desserts.

One of the oldest restaurants on the island, in the center of town, Aurora continues drawing crowds thanks to its excellent thin-crust pizzas and an elegant yet congenial ambiance. If you can’t get a table on the terrace, which is always mobbed during the high season, ask to be seated in the luminous small back room that overlooks orange and lemon groves. As in many of Capri town’s restaurants, the walls are adorned with photographs of famous past clients. Order house specialty Pizza all’Acqua, a white pizza topped with mozzarella and peperoncino.

The terrace of Le Grottelle, suspended high above a gorgeous, sparkling bay near the Arco Naturale, is one of the most blissful settings on Capri. Diners are seated under yellow umbrellas, and the Caprese dishes (pasta, seafood), prepared by Mama Rosa, are flavorful, homemade and delicious. Don’t even bother with the menu; just ask for what’s fresh that day and return to gazing at the incredible view. Le Grottelle is a twenty-to-thirty-minute walk from town, but you’ll be happy to work up an appetite for this totally authentic Capri must. and be sure to save room for dessert, like the fluffy lemon cake.

Highly recommended restaurant, located just 100 meters from Piazzetta di Capri. Waiters in pink waistcoats serve up superb ravioli Capresi and spaghetti alle vongole. The wine list contains more than 400 Italian and international wines. All the wines featured are available for purchase in the nearby La Capannina Più shop, which also sells organic jams and a small home ware collection.
